As the project organiser of the European Social Fund (ESF), Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (vhb) coordinated and supported projects for job-related further education via web based knowledge transfer from universities into companies.

Within the projects the provision and acquisition of knowledge mainly took place in online courses and were supplemented by classroom lectures (blended learning). Through this knowledge transfer, employees of the participating companies acquired innovative and up-to-date methodological and technical knowledge.

The general aim was to increase the innovation capacity within a company. Additionally, valuable networks and partnerships between universities and participating companies were established in these projects.

The individual further and continuing training projects for professional development were mostly targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) from areas in Bavaria affected by demographic change.

The Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts handed over the management of web based knowledge transfer from universities into companies to vhb for the funding periods 2007-2013 and 2014-2020. During these funding periods, 71 projects were funded and successfully implemented.
